In the spring of 1978, Harbor View Farm's, Affirmed, achieved racing immortality by becoming the 11th, and most recent, winner of thoroughbred racing's coveted Triple Crown. Trained by Hall of Famer, Lazaro Barrera, and ridden flawlessly by teenage sensation, Steve ''The Kid'' Cauthen, Affirmed clinched the crown by defeating arch rival, Alydar, in the Belmont Stakes, deemed by many to be "The Race of the Century." As a four year old, Affirmed was no less spectacular, winning the final seven races of his career and being named Horse of the Year for the second consecutive year. This homebred champion will be remembered for his courage and determination which earned his place in racing history as one of the all time greats. An exhibition at Kentucky Horse Park bears tribute to Affirmed's remarkable career and honors his legacy.
